What If Positivity, Light & Love Don’t Cut It? | Rebelle Society

Let’s talk about anger. Lots of people would prefer to imagine that it doesn’t exist. Anger is an ugly emotion to many. We hide it, squash it down, block it off, and gloss over it.

Except that nothing in the world of emotions never truly goes away. Push it down, and it will start corroding your insides. Gloss over it, and you never address the reasons why you got angry in the first place, and the injustice continues.

Anger is a tool.

I highly recommend Rebelle Society’s take on anger. Its poetry asks a lot of the questions we should all be asking ourselves.

“But what if…
… the pleasant and comfortable language of positivity that we use stops us from seeing the world as it really is?
What if we unconsciously use it as a buffer?
And what if it ignores, excludes, reduces and invalidates the experience of others?
What if it screens us to their suffering and oppression?
What if it masks our complacency?”

“What if the discomfort [anger] brings is a gift?
What if it is an opportunity to learn?
What if their seeming ‘negativity’ is a cry of pain, of deep frustration?
What if it is a cry for us to listen?
What if it actually unites us?”

Get angry. Let others get angry. Get powerful together.
